About Us...
Friends of Chamber Music has been inviting audiences to meet some of the world's best musicians. In these years our audience as grown from Troy to include the whole Capital region. All of these years we have greeted outstanding groups with heartfelt applause and earned our reputation as a welcoming, sophisticated audience.
If you enjoy adventurous programming performed by outstanding artists, the known and the new, in a unique ambience... Friends of Chamber Music concerts are for you! Friends of Chamber Music, Inc. founded in 1949 by composer and educator Martha Beck Carragan continues to present brilliant artists and ensembles.
Exceptional programming is one of the trademarks of our concerts. Since its beginnings, Friends has presented a widely varied repertory, being especially conscious of important works that are infrequently heard. Noteworthy have been the viola quintets by Mozart, Brahms and Bruckner, the septet of Beethoven and the octet of Schubert; a program of early music for winds, the two septets of J. N. Hummel and the Quartet for the End of Time by Messiaen. There have also been anniversary concerts of the music of Scubert, Haydn and Bach; and the Friends' commitments to twentieth century music has brought, among other works, both quartets of Janacek, all of Bartok's quartets, and a continuing series of Shostakovich's masterworks in this genre. Tickets are priced to be affordable, to welcome newcomers to chamber music and to encourage the appreciation of live performance. So join us! We invite you to hear chamber music in it's most appropriate setting. _________________________________________________________
